I'm safely here in Choluteca with Eddie and the Turners and the Maranatha group!! The bus ride to Tegucilgalpa was long, but uneventful and i didn't get taken or anything. As soon as I got to the airport i crossed the street and made a pit stop at Pizza Hut. It was wonderful!!! The airport had free wifi so I hung out there and waited for everyone to arrive- Stacie found me and was like Kelly?! I didn't know you were going to be here! So that was funny and we waited for the rest of everyone else to show up. It was awesome to see them, though the first thing Grandma Turner said to me was "What happened to you? You're so skinny! Are you ok?" But her next words were oh it's so great to see you! i'm so glad you're here!
Anyway though it has been awesome to be here with a group of volunteers, especially good friends! It's so much better than being alone all the time. And they are eating american food too! I've had spaghetti, mac and cheese and even french toast! plus pizza hut again yesterday :-) i've been in heaven basically.
and it's felt like christmas! my family sent down a sweet care package with some awesome snacks that will last me a while, the people here heard about what i'm doing and they gave me a huge jar of peanut butter and 2 things of jelly- which is great since that stuff is really expensive down here. then another couple gave me some children's books in spanish to take back to the kids and the big huge surprise was that mrs. turner has given me her laptop to have!!! She hardly ever uses it and heard about how mine has been dying and not working so well so she brought hers to give to me :-) I was so shocked when she told me and sooo happy to have a computer again!
it's been fun here working on the construction site. I've never done cement block pouring before so i'm learning tons of new stuff, including Spanish construction words because i'm one of the few who knows some Spanish down here so I help with translating. But when they ask me to get a hack saw i'm just like well i have no idea what that is in english so i have no idea where to even start with trying to translate that to spanish haha. It's soooo hot here, over 100 everyday, and that's in teh shade, so I've drinking gallons of water each day and have a great farmers tan going on now. But overall it's been good and i may even end up staying here longer! they asked if i would stay next week to help out some with VBS too. and i really hope i can cause it's so much more fun here than being alone in santa barbara!
well that's about all for now. these days are really physically exhausting so i'm gonna get some sleep now. happy sabbath!
I personally loved the farmers tan...
