Today was better, I got sleep and that helped! I got to know the kids a bit more which is really hard since I don’t know a whole of Spanish to communicate with them but it’s ok. They are cute, but really don’t behave well! There’s hardly any staff here, so no real discipline that I’ve seen yet and just honestly no one who is watching them. Lots of hitting and punching and shoving. There’s always one or another trying not to cry from getting picked on. But I talked today with a volunteer who was here 8 years ago from Germany. He came back to visit and is leaving Sunday but he said be hesitant before jumping in to break up the arguing. Get to know the kids first, they all pick on each other, even the older ones to the younger ones, so don’t get super involved with the bullying.
They do quite well with helping around here though, they know their jobs for cleaning and stuff. Even the little ones who are 7 are mopping the floors. So they stay busy with that. It’s summer vacation for them right now, school starts on Feb. 12th.
It’s very different than kids in the US in some ways. These kids race around and play with things that I thought were not the safest haha. Today they found a bag of small Christmas light bulbs and were all throwing them against the cement ground as hard as they could with the glass breaking. One of the staff walked by though and didn’t say anything so I guess it’s ok. I mean the glass was tiny pieces, right? J
I’ve had beans at every single meal since being here. Sigh. I’m managing to eat them, but definitely not enjoying that haha. It downpoured almost the entire day today so the kids got to watch a movie. Spirit, a cartoon one that I never saw in English before and didn’t understand much of in Spanish. Thankfully it was with horses so there wasn’t much talking haha.
I think tomorrow I’m going to go to the INFA, the daycare. Hopefully I can get up on time, I love the cool alarm clock thing that Papa and Grandma got me, but the alarm didn’t go off this morning and I was sure I had set it! Haha hopefully better tomorrow. Ok that’s all for now. I love you guys and miss you! The internet here is soo slow but thankfully it's working now. The rain kept it out for a while.....Kelly
