Arts, Crafts, and Pancakes

I need help from any of you out there! We have craft time with the kids at the IHNFA each morning and today they were like ok Kelly what should we do? AAAHH! I couldn’t think of hardly anything to do with all of them! Keep in mind they’re like average of 7 years old. We have construction paper, lots of different foam shapes, colorful popsicle sticks, lots of stickers, crayons, colored pencils, googly eyes and glue. Ideas?!?!?! I was thinking of crowns, but they’re weren’t any of the jewel things there. PLEASE send me any ideas you have. Today we just all colored giant flowers and put foam bugs on them. But I had to stretch to come up with that even haha.
Yesterday there were PANCAKES for breakfast!!! I don’t even like pancakes when I’m in the states, but I can’t tell you how excited I was to see them here with some yummy jelly stuff to put on top. And with a side of beans and rice of course J I’m seriously starting to not even notice the beans anymore though. Weird, I know, but they don’t phase me like they did before. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t enjoy them, but I don’t dislike them to the same extent as before.
Yesterday was quite similar to a Sunday in the states- super laid back, not much happening. There was brunch even, so no one got up early. Watched 2 of the Anne of Green Gables movies and those of you who’ve seen them will probably be shocked by that since you know how long they are. They must be the tamest movies in the world, besides maybe Pollyanna, but the kids made all kinds of eeww, woah, ohhh, noises during the one kiss Anne has at the end haha.
Played some games too. They weren’t super thrilled with Swap but ended up playing lots of Phase 10 instead. I also translated the cards in SORRY so they would understand that too haha. It’s funny how we communicate. Today at the IHNFA I read some Disney princess stories to the kids for almost an hour. I was sooo exhausted by the end of it, since I was stumbling over a lot of pronunciation. But they must have understood me cause they kept wanting me to read more. And they helped with the words I got stuck with too. I think that will help my Spanish. Like Pablo told me, I need to be a little Spanish sponge haha.
I have a new respect for any teachers out there, especially Andy and Tori who I know so well. It’s exhausting being with so many kids for 7 hours straight! These ones are always running around and yelling and screaming. And feeding them is so messy too! I’m gonna be a pro by the time I’m done here though J One little girl reminded me of myself when I was little. She didn’t want to eat her beans and rice cause she didn’t like them. But all the kids HAVE to finish all their food. So I was feeding it to her and she was chewing while plugging her nose!
Snacks were interesting- cantaloupe juice in a plastic bag! But it was not bad. Ok that’s all for now. Love you and start thinking of craft ideas! Kelly
